What was our genre?

The genre we chose for our video (matching our sing choice) was indie rock - after researching and watching a lot of videos from the indie-rock genre we concluded that most of them involved a live performance aspect and had extremely unique concepts/narratives.

What was the set like?

We had two main sets and a couple of minor sets in which only a few short shots were filmed. Our two main sets were a room covered in pink sequinned fabric and collages of song lyrics, quotes and faces. This was the set for our main character and performer Bea, and was designed to be extremely bright, colourful, and bold.
Our second main set was a messy living room, inspired by the set of Glass Animals music video for Season 2 Episode 3. This set was designed according to my own living room, using the sofa and an old television as the main points of focus. Surrounding these were piles of CDs, magazines, open newspapers, plates of half-eaten food, lighters and bottles of alcohol. Our aim was to create a set that reflected the grunge aspects of the character Coco and of the song itself, which I feel we achieved.

What were our themes?

Our themes were chaos and strength in femininity, shown through quick-time montages and the use of bright pink and glitter throughout the video. Colour played a big part in our video and provided inspiration for other aspects of the whole project, such as the images we used for our Digipak.

Any icons?

Icons in our video include  the old television set, Coco's lighter, glitter and cacti. All of these elements were presented in a very deliberate manner in order to stick in the audience's mind as key components of what we wanted our video to be.

What was the narrative?

Our video, whilst in itself being more conceptual, had a fairly clear narrative of ongoing rivalry and madness between the two characters. This can be interpreted in different ways by the audience, which was a deliberate decision on mine and Phoebe's part, and could be seen as anger or jealousy.
The overall narrative is of a main performer, Bea, singing most of the song, the performance of which is shown on a TV screen in Coco's living room. Coco begins to sing along and dips her hand into the TV screen, coming out with pink glitter all over it. The video ends with both characters lip-syncing to the song in their respective settings.

What were the characters like?

Bea and Coco are our two band members/characters, both of whom appear in the video. Bea has a more wide-eyed, eclectic look, while Coco is slightly more subdued and fits into the "grunge" stereotype. Throughout the video, each character's personalities are revealed more and more, and by the end of the video both Bea and Coco have been in states varying from relaxed and almost sleepy to hysterical and energetic.
